#VIMEDIAMANAGER DOWNLOAD TV#
SMB or NFS links show the as a folder - XBMC tries to see it as a movie, and other apps like ViMediaManager see them all as TV shows etc. Beyond the work-related items, for my media streaming its a nightmare. Why the change? What has it added except additional complexity? Something that worked has been replaced by a potential showstopper of a security issue, and added extra configuration requirements to try to manage the problems. By comparison the previous combined single bin was straightforward. When you have lots of shares managing individual recycle bins is a huge overhead. This issue has been hassling me for months now. However I still pose the question because I am considering QNAP implementation for a small business and based on my current experience I can see benefits to having 2 layers of Recycling data. I do not have much experience with deeper parts of QNAP admin settings and thus my question may not fit this thread topic. The description above is in regards to my own NAS at home. Would it not be beneficial to have both layers available? Should users delete files accidentally from the bin, there is still a chance to get the file back via admin access to the old style Network Recycle Bin of FW 3.8. The con for this setup is that also that anyone has access to the folder and if they wipe it clean, all files are permanently gone.

This has the benefit for users to recover deleted files on their own (no admin password necessary). Right now in FW 4.0.2 the appears to all users. The downside of this is that the users wanting to recover deleted files would need the admin to do so. This was a cool feature because the recycle bin was not accessible just by anyone, allowing someone to clean out files and folders prior to the retention time set for the Network Recycle Bin. When attempting to enter this folder, the pop up for administrator name and password for the QNAP device appeared, restricting access only to the administrator.

On FW 3.8 with Network Recycle Bin enabled, deleted files were only accessible via the "Network\QNAP\Network Recycle Bin 1" in Windows 7. Everything else about the new firmware has been great. Let the administrator pick if they want a centralized network recycle bin or decentralized recycle bins within each share. Instead I would like to see the ability to choose between the old style and new style recycle systems. I'm not suggesting the new system be thrown away or reverted. This means the folder clutters non-PC devices such as media streamers. The bins can not be hidden, unless of course you disable Network Recycling which is hardly desirable. The previous central Network Recycle Bin was much easier to scan for general activity or find specific file(s) to restore. Administering deleted files is challenging since you have to navigate into each share to see what is happening. Even with Aministrator access checked on the share any non-admin can see all of the files in the recycle bin (including those deleted from folders they don't have access to) and CAN VIEW THE CONTENTS OF THOSE FILES! We're going to be forced to split the single share into multiple shares which will complicate our setup immensely.

When someone deletes/overwrites a file in subdirectory the deleted/overwritten file is moved to the bin. Here are the things that the new system breaks for us: 1. For single user folders they may be fine, but for shared, multi-user folders I really struggle to see the benefit of this versus the previous centralized Network Recycle Bin that existed outside each share. The individual folders within each share really seem limiting. While the UI is much slicker than the previous firmware version the biggest impact has been the new network recycle system. A few months ago I upgraded the units to firmware 4.0.2. 6 are in business workgroup locations and one I purchased for personal use at home.
